Lead Pastors

Darren and Kathryn Durham together are Lead Pastors of Freedom Church.

Both born and bread in the town they love and call home…Bury! After tying the knot back in 2000, that summer God spoke to them whilst serving on the leadership team at a great church in Bolton. He said, “Go home…and tell them [the people] how much the Lord has done for you.” Mark 5:19. Over the next 5 years they got ready for what was to come. Darren trained full time for 3 years as a trainee, learning, serving and growing. Followed by 2 years as a Pastoral Assistant, overseeing the care and discipleship of the church, including pioneering the life courses, Alpha and the ministry for Students.

Kathryn served on the Youth and Schools team for a year (which she loved), after this lead and took forward the youth ministry, several great evangelistic events, and together they lead Missions overseas and at home.

In 2005 they were released to pioneer Freedom Church, in April 2006, the doors opened in a small community centre with 12 people, and one dream that was massive and about to take place…

Darren and Kathryn love opening up their lives and doing it well with an army of like minded people, who ‘love extravagantly and trust God unswervingly’. Their passion for life and zeal for God’s house is contagious, their inspirational, down to earth teaching is focused on helping people develop a thriving relationship with God…they’re convinced that He is doing something BIG, now, through His people.

Darren thinks he’s the world’s biggest fan of Indiana Jones, whilst not much comes close to Kathryn’s two Spaniels. Their family is due to extend very soon as they are expecting their first child in 2009.

Core Leadership Team

At Freedom Church we are blessed to have an incredible leadership team. We are passionate about seeing people’s leadership gifts released and seeing the Ephesians 4 gifts being outworked in the body of the Church, in empowering and building God’s people to ultimately, “Go and make disciples of all nations,” (Matthew 28:19), and fulfil the great calling God has given each one of us! We believe that true leadership is not simply climbing a mountain and reaching the top alone, but together in unity walking the journey of life bringing many to the summit with you!
