Hear the Whisper

When we approach God in the big things, the decision making times, we so often feel like we need a bold, strong voice to command the way to go or what to do. We stand watch for God to come rushing in like a knight in shining armour; fanfares preceding an important announcement or directive. Sometimes God does sport such style but sometimes it looks a little like this...

A hurricane wind ripped through the mountains and shattered the rocks before God, but God wasn’t to be found in the wind; after the wind an earthquake, but God wasn’t in the earthquake; and after the earthquake fire, but God wasn’t in the fire; and after the fire a gentle and quiet whisper.

1 Kings 19 v 11-12

Elijah was calling out to God to come to his aid - he'd actually had enough and was calling out to God to come end his life! - but that aside, Elijah ultimately was looking for God to step in and bring some guidance and direction. The Lord told Elijah to "go up to the mountain and the Lord will pass by." He went, he stopped, he waited and then he heard the quiet whisper.

Today, let's go where he says to go, let's stop, let's wait and let's hear the whisper.
