Good morning Freedom Church!

Being woken up naturally by the rays of the summer sun is a gloriously beautiful thing; the warmth of the sun beaming down upon your face giving you a welcome morning kiss is something I cherish. I hold it dear to my heart because as a mum of 3 handsome young boys it is something I rarely experience! In fact I am struggling to remember the last time I woke up to simply hear the birds sing while I blissfully stretch each limb across my king size bed and slowly open my eyes and embrace the new day. Instead, a distant cry gets louder or a little hand smacks me on the face to say hello or a drawn out ‘MUUUUUM’ awakens me from my slumber in one harsh blow. However, in whatever way I awake from my evenings rest, whether it is by the kiss of a sunbeam or by the ear-piercing cry of small one, I still find myself face to face with a God-given new day and each new day, however it begins, comes with fresh mercy, fresh energy and fresh purpose.

Lamentations 3:22-23

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;

his mercies never come to an end;

they are new every morning;

great is your faithfulness.

My prayer for us this month Freedom Church, is to embrace the new day, embrace the new thing which God is doing. We are coming to the final leg of Trevor and Susie’s sabbatical and the one thing every person says about a sabbatical is that it is never the same again; the church, the leaders and the people. God moves, he speaks and he leads us all into a new part of the adventure. Church, when we come to the close of this sabbatical it is going to be like a new day with fresh mercy, fresh energy and fresh purpose. You may or may not naturally awake, feeling suitably refreshed; you may feel like, (dare I suggest) a morning after the night before, startled by a rude awakening. However I can assure you that the day we step out of bed and into as his dearly beloved people is a new day for us all. And the promise of fresh mercy, fresh energy and fresh purpose remains and our response is to ‘Carpe Diem’. Seize the new day that the Lord has made.
